$1 trillion. That's how much Elon Musk could walk away with if shareholders approve his new compensation deal today. Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) investors are heading into the company’s annual meeting in Austin… And the stakes could not be higher. Norway’s $1.9 trillion sovereign wealth fund owns about 1.2% of Tesla. And they just said they will vote against the package. Schwab planned to vote against it too. But once the news leaked, Tesla supporters called them out on X – telling investors to move their money ASAP. What happened next reminded me of the GameStop short squeeze of January 2021. Thousands of retail investors began posting screenshots on X – proving they were transferring assets out of Schwab. They accused the brokerage of blindly following proxy advisors that opposed Musk’s plan. Then Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD) stepped in and threw gasoline on the fire by offering a 2% bonus to anyone who moved their assets over. The pressure was immediate and massive. So much so that within 24 hours Schwab reversed course and announced it would support Musk’s compensation plan after all. Tesla shareholders online called it a victory for retail investors. A proof-point that when individual investors act together, they can force even the biggest financial institutions to bend. The compensation vote will dominate the meeting today. But it’s not the only thing on the table. Investors will also weigh in on board seats, oversight, and where Tesla should commit capital next. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. ET. What happens there could shape not just Tesla’s future… But Musk’s role, influence, and control over the company for years. Ian Wyatt P.S.
