This Dark Cloud Could Flatten the Market at Any Time, and the New ‘King’ of Energy

This Dark Cloud Could Flatten the Market at Any Time, and the New ‘King’ of Energy  Hey everyone, Graham Lindman here… The market is up nicely Friday morning on the heels of strong earnings from Microsoft (MSFT) and Google parent company Alphabet (Class A: GOOGL; Class C: GOOG) after the close Thursday.   But there’s an ever-present storm cloud ready to rain on the parade at any moment: inflation.  Check out this chart from the latest Personal Income and Outlays report for a great indication of how sticky inflation is… As you can see with the red arrow, inflation took off like a rocket in 2021 after $6 trillion in stimulus was pumped into the economy while interest rates were near 0%.  Then notice inflation falling in 2022 with the green arrow during the Federal Reserve’s rate-hiking cycle.  And now, it’s just moving sideways (the yellow arrows). This is what we mean by “sticky,” sitting right around 3%, whereas it was at 1.5% before it started ripping higher.  The Fed’s mandated inflation target is 2%, and most economists — the Fed included — expected we’d be back below 2% by now.  But we are clearly having a hard time getting there, with core, year-over-year PCE coming in at 2.8%. So this morning’s reading clearly didn’t help. And even though stocks are moving higher so far today, this dark cloud will continue to hang over the market.  This all means I’m going to continue treading lightly. In fact, there’s one area of the market I’m super honed in right now, and that’s energy.  In fact, there’s a new king of energy on the horizon that could change everything… And I’m putting $40K of my own money into a ticker that experts predict could double or triple over the next 12 months!
