We also noted that while the American Society of Civil Engineers gave the country a C- this year – a marked improvement from a D+ in 2017, things are still dire. “Many of the country’s roads, bridges, airports, dams, levees and water systems are aging and in poor to mediocre condition. And they’re in need of a major federal investment to keep from getting worse and to withstand the harsh effects of a changing climate, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers,” as reported by NPR. In addition, according to the ASCE, 47% of the 617,000 bridges are more than 50 years old. More than 46,000 of them were deemed “structurally deficient.” The ASCE also notes the U.S. is $2.59 trillion short in infrastructure needs. Better, Joe Biden is getting set to unveil plans for a potential $3 trillion infrastructure bill this week. Even Treasury Secretary Pete Buttigieg just called for a “once in a generation” investment that would address the nation’s needs. A stock with a little volatility is desirable, because it may mean a better premium. A beta between 1.0 and 1.5 is best. A beta lower than 1.0 is not very volatile and will most likely not pay a very good premium to the covered call writer. A beta higher than 1.5 will have a good premium, but it's higher volatility increases the chance that the stock may make a sharp move in either direction.
