Most people figured COVID-19 would be behind us by now, but things just haven’t worked out as planned.
I mean, headlines this week have consisted of things like “COVID-19 cases spike in DC, Maryland and Virginia” and even “Thailand warns of spike in COVID-19 cases after ‘super spreader’ event.”
The January Effect has officially started to take hold as we approach the last full trading day of the year — and more in Thursday’s stock market recap.
The markets will be open for the full day on Friday, Dec. 31. However, the bond market will close early.
For the last few trading days of this year, we’ve seen a bit more volatility than we usually do during this time period.
We’re also starting to see indications of the January Effect, a theory that the markets rise in January more than any other month of the year. And I expect us to rally into the first week of the new year.
