You’re walking down the street, living your daily, run-of-the-mill life, and somewhere in a dark room in a high-security building somewhere, someone you’ve never met is watching your every move.
Not only that, they know where you’re walking to and where you’re walking from, what you had for lunch, and if you do anything suspicious at all… well, they’ll know that, too. And they might just act on it.
For lots of folks, that’s not too concerning. You live a pretty ordinary life and you’ve got nothing to worry about.
But in the past few years, we’ve seen just how quickly government powers meant for good can turn to something more sinister.
Which is why this article will be so upsetting for some folks.
With all the advancements in technology, the smart home systems and the security cameras everywhere, it’s no surprise that we’d get a real-life “Skynet” eventually.
The article talks about Citigraf, a project created by the security technology company Genetec, which monitors the streets of Chicago.
Here’s what it sounds like: “The screen displayed a map of the East Side of Chicago. Around the edges were thumbnail-size video streams from neighborhood CCTV cameras. In one feed, a woman appeared to be unloading luggage from a car to the sidewalk. An alert popped up above her head: ‘ILLEGAL PARKING.’”
Spotting crimes from a warehouse around the world (the author of the article stood inside Genetec HQ in Paris) sounds really cool.
But critics will say that those same powers can be used for evil, too.
As for me? Well, I’m not worried about the “fear” of it all. Quite frankly, there’s no escaping the advancement in modern security and monitoring, unless you truly want to burrow in a hole and live underground (and maybe not even then)!
So if it’s something that concerns you, the best we can hope for is to try and take something positive from it.
For me, that’ll mean searching for the trading narratives hidden within the broader story. There are quite a few big-name public companies involved in these “fusion” systems that are mentioned in the article, and in there lies opportunity.
As companies like Genetec become more popular, we’ll start to learn about the companies they need to make their surveillance networks possible.
When we know those, we’ll see possible investments and trades we can place as these technologies proliferate.
You’ve probably seen from time to time what I call an “Opportunity Wave Report.” These trades are setups that I think look strong from a technical level (using my Fibonacci levels) but that also have incredible catalysts behind them.
Typically, I ignore the fundamentals and the headlines. But sometimes, the perfect trade sets up that I can’t possibly ignore.
And I think this new not-quite-Skynet could set up something like that perfectly.
I’ll keep watching them. So I guess I’ll be watching the Watchers. Haha.
In the meantime, don’t stress about bad headlines. Always look for the opportunity.
Hope you have a good one,
Jeffry
