In Today’s Masters in Trading: Live I have a confession to make… When I first started trading options on the floor of the CME in my early 20s, I used to beat myself up for every trade I missed. I’d chase, overthink, and tell myself, “This one had to work.” So much of my first year was about learning from one mistake after another. Often with thousands on the line. For a long time, I was that trader making all the wrong moves. No significant returns. Just frustration and wondering what I was doing wrong. But all those losses during my first year weren't in vain. I was surrounded by so many older and wiser traders who helped me see the errors in my approach. They helped me realize that real traders don’t lead with their gut. Instead, they think like a casino. And that's how I learned one lesson that completely changed how I trade: Probabilistic thinking. It’s all about knowing that every trade has a probability. You can’t know the result – only the odds. I know that sounds obvious to most. And in many ways, it is. But in trading, so much of what we do is ruled by that "it's gotta work" mentality I mentioned. Once you let go of all that common sense thinking and the emotional attachment to a trade, everything changes. Suddenly, every trade became just another data point for me. It was no longer love or hate, but binary. My real job was to make bets where the odds were in my favor. That change of mindset brought me more peace (and profits) than anything else I’ve learned. And it’s essential to the success of every single one of my advisories here at Masters in Trading. Just look at how we’ve leveraged probabilistic thinking in our own portfolios: - Advanced Notice: 94 trades with a 53% win rate – and an average 103% gain per position.
- All Access: 18 trades with a 77% win rate – and an average 83% gain per position.
- Divergence Trader: 32 trades with a 68% win rate – and an average 21% gain per position.
- Earnings Advantage: 49 trades with a 67% win rate – and an average 34% gain per position.
Consistent gains. A winning approach. All marked by the edge we gain when we balance the odds in our favor. Interested in gaining that same edge in your portfolio?
