Save Your Money - "One Battle After Another" Review and a 60% OfferMomentum has turned negative... liquidity is choppy... and now we have to navigate...Good Afternoon: I stopped off for lunch… I am supposed to still be in the movie theater right now… I went to see One Battle After Another… There were 11 people in the theater. I was the last to leave… 70 minutes into the movie. Ten people walked out before I did… My one-line review: “A thoroughly unenjoyable movie… awkward… uncomfortable… and a sign that movie reviews are less reliable than financial media…” It isn’t good… from the very opening scene. For a movie that is likely going to get all of the Oscar nominations… I can’t describe how incredibly forced and flat this film is… Yeah, it’s political. There is a whole right-of-center attack on this movie because Fox News doesn’t like the “glorification” of political violence at a time when tensions are high in America. Whatever… It wasn’t the political part that bothered me. I can handle films that go against my political worldviews… I enjoyed Che: Part One, Salvador, The Battle of Algiers, and the heavy-handedness of the incredibly overrated V for Vendetta… It wasn’t the endorsement of political violence in this film that is the problem… This movie is completely lifeless and soulless. What does this film really need? A point… A plot… A character that an audience should like? How about less forced character traits (Sean Penn’s character is impossibly hackneyed…) Did you know there are secret societies of wealthy supremacists just out in the open that require total secrecy - and it never… ever… gets out? Good grief, man… read the room. This is the same writer-director who did Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Magnolia… all fine films… But this? This film needs a laugh track to tell me when I’m supposed to clap or be mildly interested… I find it funny that this film is still playing - right now - to an empty theater. It deserves it… Hey Hollywood: Loud noises and Sean Penn erections do not a movie make… What the hell did I do with an hour of my time? Save your money… Do This InsteadOh… and speaking of saving money… If you like Me and the Money Printer… have you considered picking up a subscription?
