(Spammers and Scammers)Someone is impersonating me now on Telegram and trying to get people to "invest" with them... Which, I guess means I made it...Good Evening: A quick public announcement for the evening… A reader let me know that someone is spoofing my name using an Outlook address like “GarrettBaldwin1055@outlook.com” and sending out messages with market chatter, “opportunities,” and requests to move the conversation to Telegram. This won’t be the first time… Let me make this clear:
Now… this is important… as I’ve done enough investigations into breaches to know what’s likely happened… When this stuff pops up, it isn’t because Substack was breached or your information was exposed. This is what happens when you read financial content online. Scammers buy or scrape giant “finance audience” email lists from all over the internet…. Some are old trading newsletters, webinars, forums, comment sections, anything tied to markets. They can triangulate emails - especially if that name is very unique - and a user name (say from Substack) matches an email address. So, if your user name is SoccerStarMikel on Substack… and they have “SoccerStarMikel@gmail.com” on a list… chances are… it’s the same person. Then they impersonate people with real voices and real publications to look credible.
Here’s what to do if it happens again…
This community has grown very fast in the last 90 days, and with growth comes parasites. I hate this nonsense, and regulators barely lift a finger on impersonation scams. The best defense is awareness and knowing exactly where I will and won’t communicate. The only thing I can do is raise as much awareness on this as possible. I’m happy to bring on a friend who is an expert in hacker psychology and tactics to discuss… As always, if you need me, I’m here… on Substack, publicly, transparently, and never behind some random Telegram handle. You can reach me by replying to an email… but I’d prefer it if you went through the Subslack Chat - where everyone can see the conversation publicly and where there is real accountability. I appreciate your time… Enjoy your Sunday… Go Bills… and… Stay positive, Garrett About Me and the Money Printer Me and the Money Printer is a daily publication covering the financial markets through three critical equations. We track liquidity (money in the financial system), momentum (where money is moving in the system), and insider buying (where Smart Money at companies is moving their money). Combining these elements with a deep understanding of central banking and how the global system works has allowed us to navigate financial cycles and boost our probability of success as investors and traders. This insight is based on roughly 17 years of intensive academic work at four universities, extensive collaboration with market experts, and the joy of trial and error in research. You can take a free look at our worldview and thesis right here. Disclaimer Nothing in this email should be considered personalized financial advice. While we may answer your general customer questions, we are not licensed under securities laws to guide your investment situation. Do not consider any communication between you and Florida Republic employees as financial advice. The communication in this letter is for information and educational purposes unless otherwise strictly worded as a recommendation. Model portfolios are tracked to showcase a variety of academic, fundamental, and technical tools, and insight is provided to help readers gain knowledge and experience. Readers should not trade if they cannot handle a loss and should not trade more than they can afford to lose. There are large amounts of risk in the equity markets.
