"Americans Wagered Nearly $2 Billion on the Super Bowl. I'd Guess That a Vast Majority of Prop Bets Did Not Hit"

Bryan Bottarelli

Dear Reader,

While marketing analysts debate which companies got the best ROI from their $7 million Super Bowl ads, I'm focused on the real winner: DraftKings shareholders.

Here's why that "uneventful" game you watched was actually a goldmine for DKNG...

But first, let me give you the good news if you follow the "Super Bowl Indicator."

Historically speaking, the S&P 500 performs better when an NFC team wins the Super Bowl.

The Seattle Seahawks belong to the NFC West division - so the S&P 500 should be celebrating.

When NFC teams win: +10.2% average gain for the full year, with a 76.7% win rate (23 years up, 7 years down).

Compare that to AFC wins: +8.1% average gain, 69% win rate.

Last Night's Real Winner

As I watched the game (which was uneventful for three quarters), it struck me that the biggest winner wasn't on the field - it was DraftKings.

Why? Simply because an uneventful game means virtually none of its parlay bets paid off.

This is huge when you consider Americans wagered over $1.76 billion on the Super Bowl. Since the game was mostly a defensive struggle until the fourth quarter, this limited the multileg prop bets that hit.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Here were the winning wagers that actually hit (and I'm sure not many people nailed these):

First touchdown scorer: AJ Barner (+1200 odds)

Anytime touchdown scorers:

  • AJ Barner (+240)
  • Mack Hollins (+400)
  • Seahawks defense (+400)
  • Rhamondre Stevenson (+130)

The one player who did hit most of his metrics was Seattle running back Kenneth Walker:

  • Over 70.5 rushing yards ✓
  • Over 18.5 rushing attempts ✓
  • Over 15.5 longest rushing attempt ✓
  • Over 20.5 receiving yards ✓

But aside from Kenneth Walker, virtually every other prop bet was a loser - which is exactly why DKNG is positioned for a pop.

YOUR ACTION PLAN

Looking at the chart, a re-test of the 2026 highs around $37 could result in a sizeable upside move of nearly +37%.

It's an ideal "buy low" situation, especially as we head into NCAA March Madness.

It could be time to add some DKNG to your portfolio.

The sportsbook was perfectly positioned to profit from last night's low-scoring trend, and that should translate directly to its bottom line.

P.S. The winning Gatorade shower color was Yellow/Lime, which paid out at +125. Even the prop bets you didn't think about were mostly losers.
