We interact with futures contracts on a 3 month run. Each quarter we change to the next contract. In the ES futures the contract life is actually longer than 3 months. This September 2025 contract actually began trading in June of 2023. So it is there, in the background. In December of 2024 the September contract of the ES futures traded up to 6285.00. It moved down after that with the rest of the market, though it did stay a few points above the lead contract. (There is a premium to time). That 6285.00 number remained the high of the September contract until July 3, 2025. The overnight market ran up to 6285.00, and news that morning pushed the market above 6285.00.
