The Stock Behind a Life-Saving Blood Test
By John Evelius, junior analyst, Chaikin Analytics
Twice in a single year, Sharon's scans came back clean – and twice, they were wrong...
In 2024, doctors found she had stage IV colon cancer. It had spread to her liver and lymph nodes.
Folks, that's about as serious as it gets...
After treatment, she did what all cancer patients do: wait, watch, and hope it wouldn't return.
The trouble with waiting is that scans have blind spots. And by the time a returning tumor is big enough to appear on an image, it has usually been growing for months.
In this way, the cancer gets a head start...
So Sharon's doctor added something to her routine. Every time her care team drew blood, they sent a sample to a lab running a newer kind of test.
Instead of looking for a tumor, this test looks for the tumor's DNA. This is found in the tiny fragments a cancer sheds into the blood as it grows.
Both times her cancer started to return, the test caught it. The numbers were so faint that her regular scans still showed nothing. But it was enough.
Her care team stepped in to treat each recurrence while it was still small.
Sharon didn't have to wait for the bad news to become obvious. She stayed ahead of the cancer.
They call that test Signatera, and the company behind it has become one of the most interesting stories in the market this year...
Wall Street legend Marc Chaikin reveals a novel way to use his Power Gauge system to target regular payouts like $713, $1,166, $1,488, and $2,608 in as little as seven days. Marc says an unusual market event that's been quietly building for years is hitting a breaking point – creating more income-generating opportunities than he has seen in nearly six decades on Wall Street. He explains exactly how this strategy works and shares one of his best recommendations for free. Click here for the full details.
The 'Smart Money' Loves This 'Gold Standard' Endorsement
The company behind Signatera is Natera (NTRA).
Natera's strength lies in one key skill – reading DNA fragments that drift in a person's blood. From that single idea, the company built three businesses, each in a different corner of medicine.
One business tests unborn babies for genetic conditions. Another monitors transplanted organs for early signs of rejection. But the one that currently drives the stock is Sharon's test, Signatera.
What makes Signatera different is that it's built for one patient at a time.
Doctors take a piece of a person's tumor and map its exact DNA. Then they design a test that hunts for that specific tumor's fingerprints in the blood.
That personal approach is why doctors have started to trust the test. And this year, hard proof confirmed that that trust was well placed.
In June, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network ("NCCN") gave Signatera its highest level of recommendation for guiding treatment in bladder cancer.
Doctors view an NCCN recommendation as a "gold standard." This endorsement makes them much more likely to order the test.
This is showing in Natera's numbers... The company ran more than 1 million tests in the past quarter alone.
Its cancer-testing volume jumped 56% year over year. And as more insurers agreed to cover Signatera, the average price per test grew about 16%.
Investors also took notice. The stock has jumped roughly 25% since the NCCN issued its "gold standard" endorsement, and it now trades near record highs.
We can see this in the Power Gauge...
Right now, our system gives Natera a "bullish" rating.
And one factor stands out above the rest – Money Flow Persistency.
You see, Money Flow tracks where the big institutions – the so-called "smart money" – are accumulating shares. Natera's Money Flow has been in the green for most of the year.
But right before the NCCN news, the smart money began accumulating large quantities of shares. This caused Natera's relative strength to turn positive for the first time in months...
The day before the endorsement.
In other words, the smart money was moving in before the headlines hit, and the Power Gauge took note.
Since then, Natera's Money Flow has stayed firmly in the green. That means the big players are doing more buying than selling.
That doesn't mean you should run out and buy shares of Natera right away. The stock is still trading close to 52-week highs. And it's not in oversold territory yet.
Keep an eye on Natera, though. It could flip deeply oversold soon, and that could present a great buying opportunity.
Good investing,
John Evelius Editor's note: Our founder Marc Chaikin knows how powerful these signals can be when picking stocks...
This year alone, he has booked eight double-digit winners in his Smart Money Trader publication. And with his "Income Acceleration" project, he has found a way to leverage the Chaikin Money Flow indicator to potentially produce more double-digit winners in months – or weeks.
Earlier this week, Marc went on camera to share all the details in a free broadcast. But if you missed it, you can still see a replay of his presentation with the full story. Watch it for free here before it goes offline.
