Enterprise software stocks are under pressure this year as investors question whether traditional cloud providers can monetize artificial intelligence (AI) or will be left behind by it. Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) has navigated an approximate 12% year-to-date decline amid these broader sector concerns. ....
Good MorningU.S. stocks were mixed late Monday, with the Dow higher while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq weakened as technology shares struggled. The Nasdaq-100-tracking QQQ ETF declined around 0.7% in afternoon trading, underscoring pressure on growth-oriented names even as the bull market marked its fourth anniversary, with the S&P 500 nearly 120% above its October 2022 low.
AI remained a key driver of individual stock action. Meta shares rose more than 3% after the company introduced its Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full AI models, while Intel detailed new GPU technology, Xeon-based rack designs, and software for agentic AI. FormFactor and Teradyne also announced a semiconductor-testing collaboration backed by a planned $300 million investment from Teradyne. Investors are looking ahead to Tuesday's earnings from JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and UnitedHealth.
Corporate deal activity and financial restructuring drew attention elsewhere. Getty Images announced plans for a prepackaged Chapter 11 restructuring that would take the company private, supported by up to $533 million in new equity from Getty family affiliates and Koch Equity Development. Bumble is reportedly in advanced talks for a roughly $1 billion take-private transaction, while STERIS agreed to acquire Xodus Medical for $2.1 billion. Rising oil prices and upcoming inflation and retail sales reports also kept consumer spending in focus. Featured: A former Wells Fargo advisor's take on retirement growth (Ad)

Should I Buy Microsoft Stock? MSFT Bull and Bear Case ExplainedThese insights were generated using artificial intelligence. They are based on proprietary MarketBeat data, news articles, and custom LLM A.I. algorithms. This analysis of Microsoft was last updated on Monday, October 12, 2026 at 6:21 PM. Microsoft Bull Case
- Microsoft unveiled its third-generation Maia 300 AI processor, which management claims can deliver approximately 40% more AI-generated tokens per megawatt than leading GPU-based systems, potentially improving Azure margins and reducing dependence on external chip suppliers like Nvidia.
- The company recently reported strong financial results with revenue of $90.01 billion, beating analyst expectations, and earnings per share of $4.74, which exceeded the consensus estimate of $4.24, demonstrating robust operational performance and profitability with a net margin of 40.31%.
- Microsoft has increased its quarterly dividend to $0.98 per share, representing a 0.7% yield and a positive change from the previous $0.91 payment, signaling continued commitment to returning capital to shareholders while maintaining a low payout ratio of 21.83%.
- Analysts maintain a consensus rating of Moderate Buy with an average price target of $579.84, which suggests potential upside from the current stock price of $541.15, supported by bullish commentary on Azure growth and rising Copilot usage.
- The stock has demonstrated strong momentum, trading at $541.15 on October 12, 2026, which is a significant increase from its 52-week low of $349.20, reflecting investor confidence in the company's strategic pivot toward in-house silicon and AI infrastructure efficiency.
Microsoft Bear Case
- Corporate insiders have been selling shares, with CEO Satya Nadella and EVP Amy Hood both executing sales in September 2026 under pre-arranged trading plans, resulting in a total of 143,009 shares sold by insiders in the last three months, which may signal reduced internal confidence or personal financial planning.
- Microsoft faces regulatory and political headwinds, as the Trump administration suspended the company from the PERM green card program, with Vice President JD Vance accusing the firm of replacing laid-off Americans with foreign workers, creating potential operational and reputational risks.
- The company's valuation is relatively high with a price-to-earnings ratio of 30.13, which may limit upside potential if growth in Azure or AI services slows, particularly as investors await the October 28 earnings report to confirm that Azure growth remains above 40%.
- Microsoft is committing to significant capital expenditures for AI infrastructure, including multi-gigawatt deployments of the Maia platform, which could pressure free cash flow and require substantial ongoing investment to maintain competitive advantage in the AI race.
- Short interest has increased in recent months, with shares shorted rising to 61,133,927 as of September 30, 2026, indicating that some market participants are betting against the stock's performance, potentially due to concerns over high valuation or execution risks in its AI strategy.
