Good Morning
U.S. stocks tumbled Thursday, reversing the previous session's post-election rally as the Dow dropped more than 1,500 points during trading. Enterprise software and semiconductor shares came under pressure, while fintech stocks including Robinhood and Dave fell more sharply than the broader market.
AI-related stocks were particularly hard hit. Vertiv fell by double digits amid concerns that the midterm election results could lead to tighter restrictions on data center development. Nebius also declined as investors reassessed AI infrastructure expansion risks, while NVIDIA, AMD, and Micron shares tumbled amid broader semiconductor industry concerns.
Elsewhere, AppLovin shares surged after the company reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results, while Tapestry rallied after raising its full-year outlook. In economic news, weekly initial jobless claims fell to 189,000, the lowest level since July, while U.S. labor productivity increased at an annualized rate of 3.6% in the third quarter, exceeding economists' expectations.

Should I Buy Costco Wholesale Stock? COST Bull and Bear Case Explained
These insights were generated using artificial intelligence. They are based on proprietary MarketBeat data, news articles, and custom LLM A.I. algorithms. This analysis of Costco Wholesale was last updated on Friday, November 06, 2026 at 1:05 AM.
Costco Wholesale Bull Case
- Costco Wholesale Corporation demonstrated robust top-line growth in October 2026, reporting net sales of $24.50 billion, which represents a 12.6% year-over-year increase, signaling strong consumer demand and operational momentum that supports the stock's recent rally to $1,065.59.
- Analyst sentiment remains positive with a consensus rating of Moderate Buy and a target price of $1,090.55, as evidenced by JPMorgan Chase & Co. raising its price target to $1,150.00 and maintaining an Overweight rating, suggesting the market still views the retailer as undervalued relative to its performance.
- The company continues to beat earnings expectations, having reported $6.75 in earnings per share for the quarter ended September 24, 2026, which exceeded the consensus estimate of $6.54, indicating effective cost management and profitability despite rising input costs.
- Costco Wholesale Corporation maintains a strong balance sheet with a low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.11 and a current ratio of 1.06, providing financial stability and the ability to invest in growth initiatives without excessive leverage risk.
- Institutional interest remains high, with 68.48% of the stock owned by institutional investors and hedge funds, and recent acquisitions by major firms like Bank of America Corp DE and State Street Corp indicating long-term confidence in the company's membership-based retail model.
Costco Wholesale Bear Case
- The stock trades at a premium valuation with a P/E ratio of 51.17, which is significantly higher than many peers, leaving little room for disappointment and potentially limiting upside potential if growth slows, as noted by Citi maintaining a Hold rating with a $1,020.00 target.
- Recent insider activity shows a trend of selling, with executives like Claudine Adamo and William Richard Wilcox reducing their positions in late 2026, which may signal that insiders believe the stock is fairly valued or overvalued at current levels.
- Short interest has increased slightly to 7,600,821 shares as of October 15, 2026, with a days-to-cover ratio of 3.73, indicating that some market participants are betting against the stock's continued rise, potentially creating downward pressure.
- Competition from major retailers like Walmart and Amazon is intensifying, as highlighted by recent analysis suggesting these companies are competing for more than just membership fees, which could erode Costco's market share and pricing power over time.
- The stock's beta of 0.85 suggests it may underperform in a strong bull market, and its recent price action, including a decline on November 3, 2026, indicates volatility that could deter risk-averse investors seeking consistent gains.
