Back in 2021, a small group of OpenAI's most senior researchers quit together over disagreements about the direction of AI development. Among them was OpenAI's head of research, Dario Amodei, and his sister Daniela. They started their own AI company and a year later OpenAI launched ChatGPT. That’s what many consider the start of the AI boom. ChatGPT became the fastest-growing consumer app in history. Meanwhile, the defectors had already finished their own chatbot months before ChatGPT launched. But they held it back for more testing while their old employer took over the world. And while OpenAI chased hundreds of millions of free users… Anthropic quietly went after corporations. Today, 85% of its revenue comes from businesses.
