A woman from Lymm, England lay in the ICU after a lifesaving 15-hour surgery...
As she recovered, their daughter spent almost £1,000.
You see, doctors had just removed a tumor from his wife's brain. And she couldn't monitor her phone for days after.
This meant that she couldn't see the stream of PayPal notifications. The spending spree went unnoticed until Lymm got an overdraft alert...
In one day, the 11-year-old girl made 48 transactions.
She wasn't buying physical goods or anything tangible. Instead, Lymm's daughter accrued a treasure chest of virtual items in the popular online game, Roblox.
Put simply, the girl's Roblox profile was attached to an Apple account... which was linked to her mother's PayPal. It didn't need authorization to make further purchases, allowing her to rack up a hefty tab.
Roblox, Apple, and PayPal refused to refund the money at first. All three companies said it didn't matter that the parents didn't approve their daughter's purchases. They were still on the hook for the bill...
After a battle, Apple agreed to refund £759.93 of the family's money because the girl's mother was in the ICU. But it was a long shot from the amount they said their daughter spent.
Now there's new drama unfolding between two huge tech companies. And it's making a new potential avenue for unauthorized purchases...

A Major Tech Company Banned AI Agents From Its Online Marketplace
On September 8, Meta Platforms (META) released its AI agent – Muse.
Muse isn't just a chatbot. Instead of just replying to a person's request, Muse goes a step further.
The agent can act on the person's behalf.
Now, Meta claims that Muse will ask permission before taking certain actions. In addition, Meta promises that Muse will be safe with users' private data.
For example, Muse can purchase items on a user's behalf. Meta says the agent creates a virtual card to protect payment information and asks for final approval before making a purchase.
But a major online retailer just threw a wrench into Meta's agentic dreams. You see, Amazon blocked Muse from using its site to purchase goods.
Spokespeople for the megaretailer say it didn't get advance notice that Muse would use its site. They also raised red flags about how Muse handled sensitive information.
As an example, imagine asking Muse to find you a recipe for chocolate cake. Muse does that – but decides you need an expensive industrial mixer for the recipe.
To complete its goal of helping you bake a cake, it asks for your approval on the recipe. At the same time, it secretly orders the mixer.
Sure, that scenario may not happen. But it's interesting to think of the lengths Muse may go to complete a task.
I don't think Amazon's position comes from concern, however. If I'm being honest – I think Amazon just doesn't want a competitor's AI using its site.
Regardless, Meta is enjoying a boost from Muse's hype right now. Since September 8, shares of Meta have jumped 20% in value.
That seems promising, folks. But the Power Gauge isn't thrilled.
Right now, Meta gets a "neutral" rating from our system. That means the stock is simply "OK" right now. The Power Gauge predicts Meta is likely to neither outperform nor underperform the broad market.
Folks, Muse may be a revolutionary step in the AI race. However, that doesn't mean Meta shares are a "buy" right now.
In short, the Power Gauge isn't impressed with Meta. There are better places to grow your money today.
